Dry West
specializes in native and drought-tolerant trees and shrubs. We select each shrub and tree specie or variety
for its beauty and suitability for the West’s rugged environment. We
also offer ornamental grasses, as well as planting accessories and
soil amendments to assist in planting and caring for trees and shrubs. Many
of our plants are unique and not readily available through most nurseries. The
following pages list those tree, shrub, grass and perennial varieties
that we carry in 2008.
In 2008,
we are carrying and have access through other local growers to
more than 30 tree varieties, including the always-popular cottonless
cottonwoods, oaks, pines, junipers, and a selection of hardy yet
gorgeous Tatarian and Autumn Blaze maples. Many
of our trees are offered in containers – sizes readily managed
by most homeowners that can be taken home and planted with or without
the help of a neighbor – or as balled and burlapped, which
may require more sophisticated planting assistance.
Ornamental
grasses were added to our product offerings in 2006. We have endeavored to identify and obtain those varieties
proven successful in landscaping applications throughout the region. Ornamental
grasses are becoming increasingly popular among landscapers and homeowners,
as they add interesting texture and beauty to xeric and drought-tolerant
landscapes.
We
have close to 60 shrub varieties and many colorful and drought-tolerant
perennials, all in sizes large enough to show visitors what can
be contributed to their landscaping efforts. This year we have
expanded our selection of Plant Select® shrubs and perennials. Plant Select ® is
a cooperative program administered by the Denver Botanical Garden
and Colorado State University that seeks to identify and distribute
the very best plants for the intermountain region.
